Appearance[]
When first seen in the book (through Smoker's eyes) - "Gangling, bald, armless. Eyes as green as grass. Broken nose, sarcastic mouth, always lifted at the corners"[1]. Was born without arms, but not without hair. Has prosthetics, but is also highly adept in using his feet and teeth to accomplish everyday tasks.
Notable Relationships[]
Before the House[]
Sphinx has a family - a mother, who brings him to the House at the age of 9 (in the deleted scenes she is seen as caring, but misguided - fixated on her son's disability and constantly reiterating his helplessness) and a grandmother[2]. After graduation, Sphinx does not seem to have any contacts with them.
